چکیده

Abstract Background Information about the clinical and microbiological characteristics of IMP-producing Enterobacterales has been limited. Here, we describe an institutional outbreak Enterobacter cloacae complex (ECC) involving multiple clades ECC sequence type (ST) 78 strains. Methods Antimicrobial susceptibility testing, whole-genome sequencing, conjugation experiments 18 strains isolated during four-year study period were performed. Species subspecies determined by average nucleotide identity analysis clonal relatedness isolates was analyzed with multilocus typing core-genome single polymorphism (SNP) analysis. Relevant information extracted from medical records. Results Fourteen as hormaechei ST78. Sixteen isolates, including 13 belonging to ST78, carried bla IMP-1 in In316-like class 1 integron also IncHI2 plasmids. Conjugation successful for 12 carrying on plasmids isolate IMP-11 IncL/M plasmid. Although isolation ST78 clustered a 14-months suggesting nosocomial transmission, these subdivided into three SNP analysis: clade A ( n = 10), B 1), C 3). part unexpected epidemiological at time Most susceptible non-β-lactam antibiotics had relatively low minimum inhibitory concentrations carbapenems (≤4 μg/mL). Five six infections caused treated successfully. Conclusions Whole-genome sequencing revealed different strains, where patients favorable treatment outcome compared that producing other carbapenemases, possibly due their non-multidrug-resistant phenotype.

Molecular Characteristics of First IMP-4-Producing Enterobacter cloacae Sequence Type 74 and 194 in Korea

The worldwide dissemination of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) has become a major therapeutic concern in clinical settings. Enterobacter cloacae is a major pathogen that causes serious hospital-acquired infections. We investigated the clinical characteristics and molecular mechanisms of the first IMP-4-producing E. cloacae clinical isolates in Korea. Five carbapenemase-producin...

717Clinical characteristics and outcome of metallo-β-lactamase-producing Enterobacter cloacae bacteremia at a tertiary care cancer center in Japan

Background. Recent reports suggest that metallo-β-lactamase (MBL)-producing Enterobacter cloacae increases as a pathogen of healthcare-associated infections in Japan. Bacteremia caused by MBL-producing E. cloacae is a major concern due to the resistance to most β-lactams including carbapenems. However, little is known about MBL-producing E. cloacae bacteremia in patients with cancer. The aim of...

FRI-2 carbapenemase-producing Enterobacter cloacae complex in the UK.

Objectives Detection of rarer carbapenemases is challenging, as it requires molecular assays with comprehensive coverage or the use of phenotypic methods for the detection of carbapenemase activity. We describe a new class A carbapenemase, FRI-2, in an Enterobacter cloacae complex isolate following implementation of an in-house multiplex PCR for the detection of 'rare' class A carbapenemases. ...

Outbreak of cephalosporin resistant Enterobacter cloacae infection

Enterobacter cloacae resistant to third generation cephalosporins emerged rapidly during an outbreak of serious infections due to this organism in a neonatal intensive care unit where ampicillin and gentamicin were used as first line antibiotic treatment. Organisms resistant to cephalosporins were isolated from 12 infants, six of whom developed systemic infection. Two infants died. Isolates of ...

Outbreak of infection caused by Enterobacter cloacae producing the novel VEB-3 beta-lactamase in China.

Over a 4-month period from November 2002 to February 2003, 27 ceftazidime-resistant or cefotaxime-resistant nonrepetitive Enterobacter cloacae isolates were collected from 27 patients hospitalized at HuaShan Hospital, Shanghai, People's Republic of China. The Etest did not detect extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) in those 27 isolates; however, screening by the NCCLS ESBL disk test and c...
